August 29. For breakfast, B had kedgeree, made from rice, fish,curry powder, et al. Not bad.
We stopped at Bicton Garden. It has England’s oldest greenhouse, 1836, with 18,000 small glass panels.

There was a museum with historic agricultural tools and vehicles. Most interesting item, B thought, was this Victorian display of varieties of meadow grasses.
We returned to Dartmouth by about 4 to catch the aerial displays of the Royal Dartmouth Regatta. The Leighs’ deck is the perfect place to watch. The Typhoon, manufactured by a consortium of EU companies, is extremely loud:

The Regatta continued Saturday with sporadic demonstrations of military aircraft and a dull procession of small “classic” boats. It ended in the evening with splendid fireworks.
Aug 30 Vertical gardening.
The Leighs live on a ridge above Dartmouth, last house on the left.
Street signs passed on the way up;
. The garden goes steeply downhill 70+ steps.
Bruce was permitted to attend to the garden, deadheading roses and removing ivy. Hiding in the compost bin are a few well-camouflaged slow worms, small legless lizards.
August 31, Sunday.
We took the boat out to a nearby cove for a picnic. There were some horses on the beach.
Sept. 1. We rest.
